December 4 - December 7
KES45000
4 Day Mount Kenya Trek
The 4 Day Mount Kenya Trek via the Chogoria Route is one of the most scenic adventures in East Africa. Mount Kenya, the country’s highest peak and Africa’s second-highest after Kilimanjaro, offers breathtaking views of glaciers, alpine lakes, and dramatic rock formations. This trek takes you to Point Lenana (4,985m), the third-highest peak, where you’ll witness an unforgettable African sunrise above the clouds.
Why Choose the Chogoria Route?

The Chogoria Route is considered the most beautiful approach to Mount Kenya. It features diverse landscapes — from lush forests and waterfalls to expansive moorlands and dramatic cliffs. Trekkers pass through Lake Ellis, Lake Michaelson, Mintos Tarn, and the Temple rock formation before summiting. Unlike other routes, this path combines adventure with unmatched natural beauty, making it perfect for hikers seeking a balanced challenge.
4-Day Mount Kenya Trek Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Chogoria Gate – Lake Ellis (10km)
The trek begins with a drive from Nairobi to Chogoria Gate, where hikers are welcomed with snacks and lunch prepared by the mountain chef. From here, the hike to Lake Ellis passes through Hargenia forest and tussock grasslands, with sightings of streams and trout-filled rivers. Along the trail, enjoy panoramic views of Mugi Hill and the Giant Billiard Table. After crossing River Nithi and visiting the scenic Nithi Falls, the day ends at Lake Ellis Camp, where trekkers relax by a bonfire before dinner.
Day 2: Lake Ellis – Mintos Camp (14km)
Day two starts with a magical sunrise over Lake Ellis. After breakfast, the hike continues through heather and golden moorlands, offering glimpses of valleys and alpine vegetation. Trekkers refill water bottles from streams that feed the Nithi Falls before climbing steadily towards the Chogoria trail junction. From here, the first views of Lake Michaelson appear below steep cliffs. After lunch, the trek continues to Mintos Camp (4200m), a base offering stunning views of Point Lenana and Batian Peak. Energetic hikers can take an optional afternoon walk to Mintos Tarn and the dramatic Temple rock formation before settling down for an early dinner.

Day 3: Mintos – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Shipton – Old Moses Camp (20km)
This is the highlight of the 4 Days Mount Kenya Trek. At around 3:00 am, hikers begin the predawn ascent under starlit skies. After 3–4 hours of steady climbing, the group reaches Point Lenana (4,985m) in time for a breathtaking sunrise over the peaks and valleys of Mount Kenya. On clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro is visible on the horizon. After celebrating at the summit, trekkers descend to Shipton’s Camp for a hot breakfast before continuing the 5-hour descent through the picturesque Mackinder’s Valley, filled with giant lobelias and senecios. The day ends at Old Moses Camp (3300m), where dinner and a well-deserved rest await.
Day 4: Old Moses Camp – Sirimon Gate – Nairobi (9km)

The final day involves a gentle 9km descent from Old Moses Camp through montane forest to Sirimon Gate. Along the way, trekkers often spot wildlife such as bushbuck, colobus monkeys, and various bird species. After check-out at the park gate, the group drives back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon.
