Get ready for an exciting Chyulu Hills overland tour, a two-day trip packed with adventure. Located between Tsavo West and Amboseli in Makueni County, Chyulu Hills is often called the “Green Hills of Africa.” This tour blends hiking, camping, and road travel in one unforgettable package.
From the 5:00 AM departure in Nairobi, you’ll travel through scenic terrain. As a result, the journey itself feels like part of the adventure. You’ll arrive at Chyulu National Park in time to enjoy incredible views, fresh air, and quiet, untouched nature.
Unique Landscape and Rich Ecosystem
Chyulu Hills stretch over 150 kilometers and rise to 2,188 meters. These volcanic hills are some of the youngest on Earth. They’re made up of craters, cones, lava flows, and valleys. In addition, they feature the longest lava tubes in Africa, including the famous Kisula Caves.
The ecosystem here is diverse. You’ll find woodlands, grasslands, and thickets. These areas support wildlife from Tsavo and Amboseli, including elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and even black rhinos. Therefore, hikers often spot animals along the trail.
A Perfect Blend of Hiking and Camping
On arrival, the group explores the 800-meter Kisula Caves before settling at the campsite. Later, you’ll climb Satellite Hill for a sunset view. Afterward, enjoy a warm dinner and music around a bonfire under the stars.
The next day begins early. You’ll hike through the beautiful Chyulu Hills, guided by experienced locals. The hike offers moderate challenge and fantastic views. After the hike, return to camp for lunch before heading back to Nairobi. It’s the perfect mix of activity and relaxation.

TRIP ITINERARY
Day 1
- 4:45 am: Departure at CBD, Opposite International Life house .
- 1.30pm: Get to Chyulu National Park
- 1.35 pm: Visit the 800m Kisula caves and later enjoy lunch at the picnic site as you view the scenic surroundings.
- 4.30 pm: Arrive at the campsite, settle in and set camp.
- 5.00 pm: Go up Satelite hill to watch the sunset.
- 6.30 pm: Head back to camp for an overnight stay; enjoy dinner prepared by the chefs and enjoy the evening around a bonfire.
Day 2
- 6.00 am: Wake up for breakfast.
- 6.10 am: Start the hike through the beautiful Chyulu hills.
- 2.00 pm: Get back to camp and have a late lunch.
- 2.45 pm: Break camp and pack.
- 3.00 pm: Start our journey back to Nairobi.
- 8.30 pm: Expected time in Nairobi.
Note that the program is subject to change to make the safari more exciting.
DRESS CODE: –
- Comfortable clothes for day 1 & hiking clothes for day 2.
