ITINERARY

Day 1 – Travel & Arrival in Moshi (Nairobi to Moshi, Tanzania)

We begin our adventure with an early morning departure from Nairobi at 6:30 a.m., embarking on a scenic journey to Moshi, Tanzania. Along the way, we will cross the Namanga border, completing immigration formalities before continuing our drive through Arusha to Moshi.

Upon arrival in Moshi, we check into our hotel and meet our mountain guides for a pre-climb briefing and gear check. This session ensures that all trekkers have the appropriate equipment and understand the journey ahead. Any necessary gear rentals can be arranged at this time.

Day 2 – Marangu Gate (1,970m) to Mandara Huts (2,720m)

After breakfast, we transfer to Marangu Gate (1,970m), the official entry point to Mount Kilimanjaro Hike. Here, we complete park registration before commencing our trek through the lush rainforest. This section is home to colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and diverse bird species.

We break for lunch along the trail and take a short detour to Maundi Crater, where we are treated to panoramic views of Mawenzi Peak and Northern Tanzania. We then proceed to Mandara Huts (2,720m), where we will rest for the night.

Day 3 – Mandara Huts to Horombo Huts (3,720m)

After an early breakfast, we continue trekking out of the rainforest and into the heath and moorland zone. As we ascend, we are greeted with stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro Hike twin peaks – Kibo and Mawenzi.

This route features unique alpine flora, including giant lobelias and groundsels. We stop for lunch along the way before proceeding to Horombo Huts (3,720m) for an overnight stay.

Day 4 – Horombo Huts to Kibo Huts (4,720m)

We leave the heath and moorland behind as we trek into the alpine desert zone. Our journey crosses the Saddle, a dramatic high-altitude desert plateau between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

As we approach Kibo Huts (4,720m), we take things slow to preserve energy for the summit attempt. After an early dinner, we get some rest before waking at midnight to start our final ascent.

Day 5 – Summit Attempt: Kibo Huts to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) & Descent to Horombo Huts

We start our midnight summit push, trekking over steep volcanic scree under the starlit sky. The route ascends to Gilman’s Point (5,681m), where we pause for a well-earned break before continuing to Stella Point (5,756m). The final stretch to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) is challenging but rewarding as we witness a spectacular sunrise over Africa’s highest point.

After celebrating and taking summit photos, we descend to Kibo Huts for a brief rest, followed by a further descent to Horombo Huts (3,720m) for the night.

We embark on our final descent through the heath and rainforest zones, making our way back to Marangu Gate (1,970m). At the gate, we receive our summit certificates, a proud reminder of our achievement.

Our transport takes us back to Moshi, where we check into our hotel for a well-earned rest and a celebratory meal.

Day 7 – Return Journey: Moshi to Nairobi

  • Weather Conditions: Expect varying temperatures, from warm and humid at lower altitudes to freezing temperatures at the summit.
  • Packing List: Proper trekking gear, layered clothing, a good-quality sleeping bag, hiking boots, and personal hygiene items are essential.
  • Physical Fitness: Kilimanjaro is a demanding trek; preparation with cardio and strength training is recommended.
  • Hydration & Nutrition: Staying hydrated and eating well is crucial for a successful ascent.

Our cooks are all well experienced in Western tastes so expect as an example a soup starter with bread, tomato, and avocado side salad followed by chicken casserole with boiled potatoes and julienne carrots with a fresh fruit medley to finish with, and coffee and chocolate for supper.
