Join Cushy Adventures for a 4‑day, 3‑night trek to Mount Meru’s Socialist Peak (4,562M ASL) via the Momella Route. This adventure blends wildlife encounters, diverse habitats, and high‑altitude trekking, making it a perfect stand‑alone experience for outdoor enthusiasts. Plus 2 travel days.

The Mount Meru Trekking Itinerary begins with travel from Nairobi to Arusha, where hikers prepare for the climb. Starting at Momella Gate (1,500M ASL), the trail winds through Arusha National Park, offering wildlife encounters with giraffes, buffalo, and zebras. The first night at Miriakamba Hut (2,514M ASL) provides shelter with views of the Momella Lakes. Day two leads to Saddle Hut (3,570M ASL), set in alpine moorland between the summit and Little Meru. This camp is known for crisp mountain air and starry skies, with an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820M ASL) for sweeping panoramas. Summit day begins at midnight, climbing along a dramatic crater ridge to Socialist Peak (4,566M ASL). Sunrise reveals Kilimanjaro and Tanzania’s vast plains. After celebrating, trekkers descend to Saddle Hut for a hot meal, then continue to Miriakamba Hut for the final night. The last trekking day is a gentle descent through forest, with more wildlife sightings before exiting at Momella Gate. The adventure concludes with travel back from Arusha to Nairobi, completing a journey that blends wilderness, wildlife, and high‑altitude achievement.

Event Itinerary

Travel Day 1: Nairobi to Arusha
Depart Nairobi early morning by road. Cross Namanga border and continue to Arusha. Overnight stay in Arusha to prepare for the trek.(Accommodation on BB)
Day 1: Momella Gate (1,500M) to Miriakamba Hut (2,514M)
• Elevation Gain: +1,014M
• Distance: 10 km
• Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
• Habitat: Montane Forest.
Begin at Momella Gate with registration and ranger escort. Trek through grasslands with wildlife sightings (buffalo, giraffe, zebra). Pass the Fig Tree Arch before reaching Miriakamba Hut with views of Momella Lakes.
Day 2: Miriakamba Hut (2,514M) to Saddle Hut (3,570M)
• Elevation Gain: +1,056M
• Distance: 8 km
• Hiking Time: 3–5 hours
• Habitat: Heath & MoorlanD.
Steeper ascent through forest to Elephant Ridge. Arrive at Saddle Hut in alpine moorland. Optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820M) for panoramic views.
Day 3: Summit Day – Saddle Hut (3,570M) to Socialist Peak (4,562M) and descent to Miriakamba (2,514M)
• Elevation Gain: +992M (summit), then descent -2,048M
• Distance: 18 km
• Hiking Time: 10–12 hours
• Habitat: Alpine Desert & Ice Cap
Midnight start along narrow crater ridge. Reach Socialist Peak at sunrise with stunning Kilimanjaro views. Descend to Saddle Hut for brunch, and then continue to Miriakamba Hut for overnight.
Day 4: Miriakamba Hut (2,514M) to Momella Gate (1,500M)
• Elevation Loss: -1,014M
• Distance: 10 km
• Hiking Time: 2–3 hours
• Habitat: Montane Forest
Pleasant descent through forest, with possible wildlife sightings near Tululusia Hill. Exit at Momella Gate, collect trekking certificates.
Travel Day 2: Arusha to Nairobi
Depart Arusha after breakfast. Cross Namanga border and return to Nairobi by evening.

Preparation Guidelines

• Get moving with active cardio exercises like aerobics, walking, running, cycling, and swimming during the week leading up to the event.
• Designate the day before the hike for some well-deserved rest—give your body a break from intense exercises.
• Amp up your hydration game at least two days before hitting the trail.
• Make sure to prioritize a good night's sleep before the hike.
• Boost your energy reserves by upping your carbohydrate intake two days prior. If you're into intermittent fasting or on a diet, take a one-day break around the hike.
• Trim those toenails—your feet will thank you later!
• Fuel up with a hearty breakfast at least three hours before the event. This ensures your body has time to digest, providing the energy you need without making your stomach feel too full.
• Take a pre-hike bathroom break at home to minimize pit stops during your journey.
• Prepare your mindset for self-conquest. Remember, hiking is 90% mental, 10% physical prep. Once you conquer your mind, the rest is a breeze. You've got this!
