About This Event

The Lesatima (Mt. Satima) Hike is a high-altitude adventure through the rugged moorlands of the Aberdare Range, leading hikers to the iconic Dragon’s Teeth rock formations and the summit of Kenya’s third-highest mountain at 4,001m above sea level. This challenging hike rewards endurance with surreal landscapes, sweeping views, and a true sense of mountain conquest.
Also known as Oldoinyo Lesatima, Mt. Satima is the highest peak in the Aberdare Range and one of Kenya’s most dramatic alpine hikes. Located on the northern side of the Aberdares, the trail takes hikers through vast bogs, rolling moorlands, and cold high-altitude terrain characteristic of this unique ecosystem. As you ascend, the landscape transforms into an almost otherworldly setting marked by scattered volcanic rock formations, most famously the Dragon’s Teeth and Twin Rock. These jagged formations stand in sharp contrast to the open moorlands, creating one of the most photographed sections of the Aberdares. The final push to the summit demands both physical endurance and mental resilience, with thinner air and cold conditions adding to the challenge. Reaching the 4,001m summit is a deeply rewarding achievement, offering panoramic views across the Aberdare Range and beyond. This hike is ideal for experienced hikers seeking a demanding, high-altitude day adventure.

Preparation Guidelines

Get moving with active cardio exercises like aerobics, walking, running, cycling, and swimming during the week leading up to the event.
• Designate the day before the hike for some well-deserved rest—give your body a break from intense exercises.
• Amp up your hydration game at least two days before hitting the trail.
• Make sure to prioritize a good night's sleep before the hike.
• Boost your energy reserves by upping your carbohydrate intake two days prior. If you're into intermittent fasting or on a diet, take a one-day break around the hike.
• Trim those toenails—your feet will thank you later!
• Fuel up with a hearty breakfast at least three hours before the event. This ensures your body has time to digest, providing the energy you need without making your stomach feel too full.
• Take a pre-hike bathroom break at home to minimize pit stops during your journey.
• Prepare your mindset for self-conquest. Remember, hiking is 90% mental, 10% physical prep. Once you conquer your mind, the rest is a breeze. You've got this!
