About This Event

This hike explores the lush Nyanduma Forest in the southern Aberdares, featuring shaded trails, river crossings, and a beautiful waterfall. The route blends gentle forest walks with moderate climbs, making it ideal for a refreshing outdoor experience. Expect cool air, dense greenery, and a peaceful natural setting.
The Nyanduma Forest Trail begins near Kereita Forest, gradually descending into a rich indigenous forest filled with towering trees, thick undergrowth, and vibrant birdlife. The trail is well-defined and winds through a serene environment with a consistent canopy cover that keeps temperatures cool throughout the hike. As you progress deeper into the forest, the sound of flowing water becomes more prominent, leading to several river crossings along the way. The highlight of the hike is Nyanduma Waterfall, a scenic cascade hidden within the forest, offering a perfect rest point for hikers to relax, take photos, and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. The terrain varies between gentle slopes, forest paths, and occasional muddy sections, especially during the rainy season. The return journey involves a steady ascent back toward Kereita, providing a good balance of challenge without being overly strenuous. This hike is suitable for beginners looking to build endurance as well as experienced hikers seeking a relaxed nature trail. Overall, Nyanduma Forest Trail offers a well-rounded hiking experience combining forest immersion, water features, and moderate physical challenge in a compact and accessible route.

• Amp up your hydration game at least two days before hitting the trail.
• Make sure to prioritize a good night's sleep before the hike.
• Boost your energy reserves by upping your carbohydrate intake two days prior. If you're into intermittent fasting or on a diet, take a one-day break around the hike.
• Trim those toenails—your feet will thank you later!
• Fuel up with a hearty breakfast at least three hours before the event. This ensures your body has time to digest, providing the energy you need without making your stomach feel too full.
• Take a pre-hike bathroom break at home to minimize pit stops during your journey.
• Prepare your mindset for self-conquest. Remember, hiking is 90% mental, 10% physical prep. Once you conquer your mind, the rest is a breeze. You've got this!
