About This Event

The Table Mountain Seven Ponds Traverse is one of the most scenic and rewarding highland hikes in the Aberdare Ranges. This traverse takes hikers across rolling moorlands, dramatic cliffs, and a chain of beautiful alpine ponds, offering wide-open views and a true wilderness experience away from crowded routes.
The Table Mountain Seven Ponds Traverse begins with a steady ascent toward the summit of Table Mountain, one of the most prominent high-altitude plateaus in the Aberdare Ranges. The hike starts with a gradual climb through open moorlands and rocky paths, steadily gaining elevation as the landscape opens up into expansive alpine terrain. As hikers ascend, the views stretch across the Aberdare massif, with rolling ridges and deep valleys unfolding in every direction. The climb culminates at the summit of Table Mountain, which stands at approximately 3,793 metres above sea level. The broad, flat-topped summit is a defining feature of the mountain, offering wide panoramic views and a true sense of being deep within the Aberdare highlands. Strong winds and rapidly changing weather are common at this elevation, adding to the raw, wilderness feel of the hike and marking a natural transition point before the traverse begins. From the summit, the route continues into a scenic high-altitude traverse toward the Seven Ponds. This section undulates gently across open moorlands, requiring endurance rather than steep climbing. The trail crosses tussock grasslands, shallow valleys, and low ridgelines, maintaining altitude while offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding highlands. Navigation and pacing are key here, as the exposed terrain and distance can be demanding. The traverse eventually leads to the Seven Ponds, a series of striking natural alpine tarns set at an elevation of 3,831 metres above sea level. Nestled within the rugged moorland landscape, the ponds are calm, reflective, and uniquely positioned, each contributing to the character of this remote section of the Aberdares. The Seven Ponds area provides a rewarding visual and psychological milestone on the hike, making it one of the most memorable high-altitude destinations in the range.

Preparation Guidelines

Get moving with active cardio exercises like aerobics, walking, running, cycling, and swimming during the week leading up to the event.
Designate the day before the hike for some well-deserved rest—give your body a break from intense exercises.
Amp up your hydration game at least two days before hitting the trail.
Make sure to prioritize a good night's sleep before the hike.
Boost your energy reserves by upping your carbohydrate intake two days prior. If you're into intermittent fasting or on a diet, take a one-day break around the hike.
Trim those toenails—your feet will thank you later!
Fuel up with a hearty breakfast at least three hours before the event. This ensures your body has time to digest, providing the energy you need without making your stomach feel too full.
Take a pre-hike bathroom break at home to minimize pit stops during your journey.
Prepare your mindset for self-conquest. Remember, hiking is 90% mental, 10% physical prep. Once you conquer your mind, the rest is a breeze. You've got this!
